Ryazenka Baked Style Yogurt

I picked up this bottle of Ryazenka yogurt drink at the big Russian grocery store in Sheepshead Bay. Apparently this type of baked yogurt is popular in Russia and is considered very nutritious (especially for old and/or injured people). This particular bottle was manufactured in Philadelphia. My only hope is that it will be better than Romi's Yogurt drink (which comes in a very similar container).

Ryazenka pours like Elmer's glue, but beige. It smells pretty good though...somewhere between yogurt and cheesecake. The flavor is surprisingly strong. It's pretty sour, with a hint of lemon and a tang similar to fresh mozzarella. It's interesting, but I think I'm going to have to stop drinking it before it makes me puke.

I cant find it anywhere exept the russian stores, which is disappointing :(

Ah, I get it. This is your thing: you search out ethnic foods that are unfamiliar to your palate and go on the Internet to diss them. If you had more patience -- and sensitivity -- you might find that over time you will acquire a taste for them. And you'll be healthier, to boot.

Romi's and Ryazenka -- while both excellent traditional foods -- are from different parts of the world and different methods of preparation.

This Ryazenka is AWESOME!!! If it would be available everywhere and wouldn't be so expensive, I would drink it every day all day long! The taste is so creamy and maybe in some spots even buttery. Plus is so healthy for you!

A store keeper gave me three bottles because they were at their expiration and she would not be able to sell them. I poured them (your description is accurate) and then added some strawberry flavored Kefir to make them more palatable. The mix was very good.

TRY IT - YOU'LL LIKE IT!
