Starting in April, PepsiCo will be selling new "throwback" versions of Pepsi and Mountain Dew that are made with real sugar. They will also sport retro graphic design. I'm in favor of all of this, but what a weird premise. Remember a couple years ago when McDonald's starting advertising that their burgers were Now Made with 100% Beef! How unsettling. Can you imagine if they marketed the new, improved product as "Throwback Burgers"? "Dude, remember back in the day when food was made from plants and animals?" By the way, as I write this I'm eating a McDonald's cheeseburger. What a hypocrite I am.

You can usually get the more popular sodas with sugar instead of HFCS in the spring (before Passover). Just look for the letter "P" after the kosher symbol (circled U, circled K, etc.) on the cap. Coke products come with yellow caps and Pepsi products get white caps for Passover.
In large cities Passover soda is probably not hard to find; in less populous locales Jewish-predominant neighborhoods are the places to check the supermarkets. You might be out of luck in, say, Ozark, Alabama.
Sounds like PepsiCo is just marketing its normal Passover fare as a new promotion to drum up sales. Clever business move, if you ask me.
Hmmm... Guess if I had actually read the article first, I would have realized my comment had little to add.
I actually only drink whole foods cola because of the fact it's made with sugar and not corn syrup.
Great post by the way, I linked to it via hipstr.com
